Chinatown Red Line Closure- 2013 for 5 months
- Chinatown Red Line meeting-
- CTA Board Member meeting-
- The
CTA is renovating the Red Line South line track in the spring of 2013
and as a result is closing down the stations from Cermak-Chinatown to
95th for five months. The CTA claims that the project will provide
faster commutes, a smoother ride, improved station, accessibility and
will create create hundreds of jobs. The CTA has also set alternative
means of traveling, mostly free shuttle buses at various red line
station that will take commuters to the green line.
- Will be replaced with machine
- Not all elderly people will know how to use the machine
- The chinatown post office is being shut down as a result of budget cuts to the USPS. It is amongst 14 others being shut down in the Chicago area. It may be replaced by a postal machine. The issue here is that the elderly, which make up a large percentage of the Chinatown population, will find the machine inaccessible. and that the nearest manned post office will be 1.2 miles away, a distance too far for them to travel.
